The Postures Are Not the Point, they’re the Mirror
How Kundalini Yoga Postures Reveal What’s Really Going on Inside
Most people come to yoga expecting to move their body, maybe stretch, sweat a little, or feel better afterward. But the postures in Kundalini Yoga aren’t about mastering the shape, they’re designed to reveal something far deeper: your relationship to your own energy, awareness, and internal rhythm.
In Kundalini Yoga, every posture becomes a mirror, you’re not just doing the pose, you’re witnessing yourself in it.
You vs. You: The Posture as Reflection
What happens when your arms start to shake, when your legs burn, when the breath becomes laboured?
These aren’t signs you’re doing it wrong, they’re the moment the practice starts to work. The discomfort is the doorway. What shows up in your mind during that moment is what you live with daily, you just don’t always hear it so clearly.
A posture like Stretch Pose might bring up panic, frustration, or urgency to get out.
Sat Kriya can bring up intense energy surges, emotional release, or moments of deep inner awakening. Camel Pose might feel overwhelming or strangely emotional.
Each one gives you a felt experience of where your energy is flowing freely, and where it’s stuck.
This Isn’t Performance, it’s Perception
In Kundalini Yoga, we’re not adjusting to perfect alignment, we’re listening to what the body is saying. The posture is not about “holding it right,” it’s about how you meet yourself when the shape gets uncomfortable.
Are you able to stay?
Do you override or disconnect?
Can you soften into the moment instead of pushing past it?
That’s the yoga.
At Studio Avasa, we guide people gently into postures and kriyas at their own pace. There is no rush and you are not expected to hold or master everything immediately. The practice meets you where you are, and we support you in building your capacity over time. If something is not available for you in the moment, we will offer safe, supportive modifications.
Stretch Pose: The Great Revealer
This is a posture that deserves its own spotlight. It targets the navel centre, your power source. It challenges your ego, your breath control, and your relationship to resilience.
And yet, it’s also one of the fastest ways to reset your nervous system and activate clarity. Not because it’s easy, but because it reveals what’s in the way.
You’ll quickly learn how you meet resistance, and you’ll get to practice a new response in real time.
The Medicine Is in the Mirror
Kundalini Yoga postures aren’t meant to impress, they’re meant to reveal, and with every breath, every tremble, every time you stay a little longer, you shift the pattern. You strengthen not just the muscles, but the mind-body connection that helps you show up differently in your life.
What you practice in the posture is what you practice in the world, and once you see it, you can change it.
With reverence, Sam
